2017 Winter Essentials

Hi All!

I have been MIA for quite some time and I have missed writing posts, reading up on other bloggers posts, and the blogging community as a whole!  Time got away from me for a bit there (how is it December already?!) , but I’m going to do my best to have blogging as a part of my routine again!  For my first December post, I wanted to share the items that I’ve constantly been reaching for so far this winter.

I have one hair item, and the rest of the items are different types of moisturizers.  I have long been a fan of Aveda’s Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil.  I reach for this on days where my hair does not feel as smooth and as hydrated as I would like.

Aveda Dry Remedy Hair Oil

A little bit goes a really long way with this as well.  I use maybe 1-2 drops with each application and this little bottle will last me at least 8 months.  I only apply this oil on unwashed hair days as it leaves my hair moisturized with a beautiful, healthy shine to it!  I’ll also rub the excess into my cuticles for extra moisture.

I’m sure most people experience dry hands and feet during the colder months, and unfortunately my own hands have even cracked /peeled already this winter.  These next two items have really kept me moisturized and I haven’t had any issues since I started using them.  For my hands, I’ve been loving the Kiehl’s Richly Hydrating Hand Cream “Grapefruit”.

Kiehl's Richly Hydrating Hand Cream

I purchased mine at Nordstrom and there were 3 additional scents to the grapefruit scent – in case grapefruit is not your cup of tea.  This hand cream is extremely hydrating without leaving the slick, greasy feel to your hands.  It dries down while leaving my hands feeling very moisturized.

The foot cream that I love to use when my feet are feeling really dry is the L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Foot Cream.

At night, I’ll add a bit to each foot, rub it in, and then put soft, cozy socks on to bed.  In the mornings, my feet feel brand new!  I’ll do this maybe once a week because of how effective the cream is.

Up next, we have a face mask that I’ve written a post about in the past (👉 REVIEW: Glamglow Face Masks) and it is definitely part of my winter essentials.  It’s the Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment.

This is a must have in my skincare regimen year round, but especially in the winter when my skin needs the extra hydration.

Speaking of extra hydration, I can’t seem to get enough of hydrating face masks, so I’ve also been throwing the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask into my nighttime routine.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

This product is at a much friendlier price point than the Glamglow mask, and OMG I LOVE the smell of this product so much.  I think what I smell is a fruity scent – but I could be wrong because I’m not the best at describing scents!  In all honesty, this is a great intense moisturizer, but to me, it does not offer as good of results as the Glamglow mask.

The last item that has been an essential for me is a brand-new-to-me product that I’ve never used before, the Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer.

Laura Mercier Hydrating Fondation Primer

I’ve always had either oily skin, or combination-oily skin, so I’ve only ever used primers that were mattifying or for the purpose of minimizing pores. However, recently I have been finding that my skin would feel SO dry throughout the day after applying my makeup, so this product was recommended to me.  I have not applied my makeup without this primer ever since I purchased it!  It really has been helping with leaving my skin feeling hydrated under all the makeup, and even with my combination skin, my makeup lasts through the day and I have never felt that I look shiny or greasy while using it!

What have your go-to essentials been this Winter?!

I hope you all are well and have been enjoying the holiday season so far!

#IWantKandee

Hi All,

Another one of the YouTubers that I’ve watched for many years is the gorgeous Kandee Johnson.  She appears to be such a kind individual, a very talented makeup artist, and just an all around awesome person!  I was so excited to hear that she was working on her own line of products with Too Faced cosmetics (there are too many of these awesome collabs happening!) and knew this was yet another must-have launch that I’d keep my eye on.  While I wish I could’ve purchased the whole line, there were 2 items that I was lucky enough to get my hands on that I’ll be sharing today!  (Note – both of these items sold out the day of the release, so I unfortunately have not linked them to this post 😔.)

The #iwantkandee collection included 4 liquid lipsticks, a setting powder, an eyeliner, and an eyeshadow palette.  I’ve never tried anything from Too Faced before, and because I am a fan of Kandee’s, I knew that this would be a good time to try out the line.  The first item that I purchased was the liquid lipstick in the shade Freshly Baked.

Too Faced Freshly Baked

I’ve heard mixed reviews of Too Faced’s matte liquid lipsticks, but I loved the color that I saw online of this shade so thought I’d give it a shot.  I’d like to first mention that this liquid lipstick smells AMAZING!  Obviously the theme of this line was candy focused, and the scent to this is such a pleasant, sweet smell.  I personally smell sugary cookies, but I’ve seen reviews that other people have smelled cotton candy or other types of sweets too!  I got it on Friday and tried it out on Saturday so I just have my initial thoughts on it so far.  The color is beautiful, but it’s a bit too cool toned for an everyday lip color for my taste.  It’s very pigmented and I didn’t even have to re-dip the wand to get my lips fully covered.  I didn’t find the formula to be as drying as some of the negative reviews that I’ve read, so I was very pleased with that.  The feature that I was happiest with was how long lasting this product is.  I put it on at around 1pm, went about my day, drank liquids, had some dinner,  and by about 8pm when I got back home my lips were still tinted with color!  I only have the Tarteist liquid lipsticks to compare to so for my experience, Too Faced is definitely longer lasting.  Here is a color swatch of what Freshly Baked looks like on my hand.

The other product that I purchased was the setting powder from the collection called Banana Pudding.  Kandee Johnson is known for having flawless skin with her makeup looks, so this was the product that I most wanted.  I mean, if a person whose skin looks amazing in all of her makeup looks comes out with a product described to also give you flawless skin – it’s a must have in my book!

Too Faced Banana Pudding

Again, this product smells so good, but this time being banana scented.  It’s really interesting because the powder is mainly yellow (to be used for brightening) but it’s also made up of a bunch of other color correcting pigments as well including pink, purple, and green.  I also used this on Saturday and really liked it.  It didn’t make my under-eye area look cakey nor did it crease through the day!

Too Faced Banana Pudding

And in good ole’ Ulta fashion with its awesome perks, with any Too Faced purchase of $35.00 or more, they sent out this adorable makeup pouch including a free sample size of their Better Than Sex Mascara.  I was very happy about this because I’ve never tried this very popular mascara before, so I’d like to see how it performs against the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara which I do own.

Were any of you able to get your hands on the #IWantKandee collection?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

August Favorites

Hi All!

I’m back!  I’ve had a busy past few weeks here and I haven’t been able to keep up with blogging as much as I’d like to, but I’m hoping to get back into a normal schedule moving forward!  I’d like to start off this week’s post by recapping my August favorites, so let’s get started!

BEAUTY:

First up is the sunscreen that I’ve been using all month by Neutrogena and it’s the Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock Broad Spectrum SPF 70.  This is a really lightweight formula that does not have a strong sunscreen-y smell to it.  I strongly dislike the scent of sunscreens and how thick and sticky they can sometimes feel, but this product is just the opposite of that!  I also like that it’s non-comedogenic!

IMG_2880

The next product has been my go to concealer for a bit now, but especially in the month of August and it’s the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer (if you haven’t read my recent post about it, you can check it out here 👉 My Go-to Under Eye Combo)!  This provides the coverage that I’m looking for and it does not crease on me 🙌.

IMG_2881

The last beauty product is also something that I’ve mentioned in a recent post, the Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals.  The price point, the color payoff, the longevity – just 🙌!  If you don’t own this already and you’re into highlighters, I highly recommend it!  It also now comes in 6 different shades so I’m thinking there’s an option for everyone’s taste!

IMG_2879

SKINCARE:

My first skincare favorite is the Foreo Luna Mini 2 Compact Facial Cleansing Device.  I received this as a gift in July and have not stopped using it ever since.  I find that I cannot use this at night if I’ve worn a full face of makeup (I broke out the couple of times that I tried to use this over my Clarisonic) but this has become my go to in the morning and on nights where I did not wear makeup during the day!  It really does feel like a mini-massage which is a nice treat each time that I reach for it.IMG_2884

The other skincare item that I’ve been loving is this sample sized moisturizer by Estée Lauder, the Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Lift Regenerating Youth Creme.  I really am enjoying this product, but once it runs out, it’s out because the price point on this item is wayyy out of my price range for a skincare item!  But if anyone is interested in it, it has a very pleasant light scent to it and the moisture that it provides is pure perfection.  It makes my skin feel extremely moisturized without feeling like I have too much product on my face and my makeup sits on top of this beautifully.

NAILS:

The one nail polish that I wore a lot (but ironically not on the day that I took these photos) is from the new Fall 2017 collection by Essie and it’s the polish called Mixtaupe.  This is described as a “warm ivory with a hint of pink”.  If you’re into the off white nail polish colors, definitely check this shade out!

RANDOM FAVORITES:

I’ve mentioned in a previous post that I love office supplies and wish that I could be a professional back to school shopper for people, and in the spirit of back-to-school shopping I’ve recently restocked on some of my favorite Sharpie items!

IMG_2887

I LOVE the way that Sharpie pens write and how they don’t bleed through paper!  And here are a few other random favorites from this month…

  • MOVIE:   Moana (I watched it 3 more times in the month of August 😆)
  • SONG:     Watcha Gon’ Do? by Puff Dadd ft. Notorious BIG & Rick Ross
  • NETFLIX BINGE SHOW:   I re-watched Parks and Rec, and per usual, loved every second of it!
  • SNACK:   Doritos Spicy Nachos

I hope everyone is having a great start to September!

My Go-To Hair Care Products

Hi All,

I’m currently traveling so I’m going to try my best to keep up with posts this week!  Today I wanted to share my go-to hair products.  I don’t use too many different types of hair care items, so these are more of essentials rather than styling products.

First up, my go-to shampoo and conditioner at the moment are both by Ogx and they are the Ogx Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo and the Ogx Brazilian Keratin Therapy Conditioner.  I try to purchase sulfate free hair products, and I love the smell of the majority of the Ogx products.  I also rotate between the Macadamia Oil and the Argan Oil of Morocco options as well.  The Brazilian Keratin Therapy options are best for smoothing your hair and adding a glossy shine which I find that I need extra help with since my hair is colored!

IMG_2868

The other shampoo and conditioner that I rotate in with this pair is by Joico and it’s their Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo and the Joico Color Endure Violet Conditioner.  These are also sulfate free products and I really like them for maintaining the blonder highlights through my hair.  I will use this combo once every week at the most frequent if I feel I need the extra boost, but I typically will work them into my routine every couple of weeks.

IMG_2866

My go-to hair oil at the moment is the Nexxus Oil Infinite Nourishing Hair Oil.  I read somewhere online that this was a good alternative option for the Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil.  I think the Nexxus is fine and it’s my go-to at the moment because it was pricey so I will finish this bottle 😆, but when this runs out I think I will switch back to the Aveda as I find that it works better.  The Nexxus does a decent job, but I don’t particularly like the smell.

IMG_2869

My go-to heat protector for years has been the Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray.  I don’t use heat products very often, but when I do this is what I reach for.  And unlike the above product, I really like the smell of this one!

IMG_2870

And if you’ve read a couple of my other posts, you’ll know that this last product needs no introduction or explanation for me…

Do you use any of these products?!

I hope you’re having a great start to your week!

Checked Off My Wishlist ✅: ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

Hi All!

I’m really late to the game with getting my hands on this item, but I’m happy to report that I’ve FINALLY added the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette to my collection 🎉!  I don’t know why it took me so long to dive in and purchase this palette because the warm tones are right up my alley and I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews about these eyeshadows, but as they say, better late than never!

If you haven’t seen this palette yet, here are a couple of pictures of the packaging and the shadows themselves!

Modern Renaissance

I like the soft feel of the outside of the palette, BUT it got dirty the first time that I used it while applying my makeup.

Modern Renaissance

The shadows are SO pigmented, but they do have the most fall out of any shadow that I’ve ever used, but it really will not deter me from using the shadows at all.  I just have to be sure to tap the brush well prior to applying the shadows to my eyes.  Also, these really do blend like a dream!  My favorite shades so far are Burnt Orange, Primavera, Antique Bronze, and Realgar.

I really do like the brush that is included in the palette as well.  Overall, I’ve got nothing but love for this palette!

Here is a quick look that I wore last weekend using this palette 😀!

I used the Eylure Vegas Nay Platinum Princess Lashes for this look.

Do you own this palette and, if so, are you a fan of it?  Have a great weekend everyone!

Lauren
